The Artist
Hello, my name is Mika and I’m the artist behind Pendragon Studios! I have loved art my whole life, it’s always been a safe escape for me. I have dabbled in various forms of art, including music, painting, and even culinary; but nothing has quite captured my heart like pyrography has!
To me, pyrography is such a uniquely calming art form. By creating designs with heat, it really feels like I am making art with fire! Several years back I started learning different pyrography techniques here in my home state of Michigan. I started it just as a hobby, but very quickly I fell in love, and wanted to be doing it all the time! I love burning designs of nature especially, I feel like I was born to be outside in the middle of it all!

Most of my inspiration comes from some of my favorite things in life, which are family, nature, and animals. Oh, and don’t forget about having fun! I love making people laugh or smile, and it’s contagious too! During my free time, you’ll usually find me spending time with my husband or adventuring with my besties! I also really enjoy sitting outside taking in the scenery, or finding cool plants and mushrooms. I am just so fascinated with everything nature has to show, and I absolutely love learning about it too! From insects, to different plant species, and even weather patterns I just find it all so inspiring and peaceful!
Art keeps me going almost every single day, and it has always been a constant in my life. It has perpetually been a part of me and who I am as a person, and I am beyond proud to share my burning passion with all of you now! Enjoy!
What is Pyrography?

Pyrography is the free-handed art form of burning images or designs with controlled heat. Although it’s most commonly referred to as “wood-burning”, you can do pyrography on quite a few different surfaces. Most use a wood-burning pen that heats up with electricity, although there are other methods such as heating a poker in a campfire, or even magnifying the sun to create designs!
Different materials have different outcomes when burning them. For example, when you burn a design on to wool, there’s a chemical reaction and it turns into a shiny, copper color! However, there is always a risk when burning different materials, it’s always recommended to wear proper PPE and only do pyrography in a well-vented area.
